Protection Light

How many fools does it take to change a light globe?

I once had a job for a while changing light globes in boutique stores around town. I worked with a friend called Jason who is a spiritual seeker on another spiritual path. We would just drive about town all day doing lighting fit outs in stores and selling globes. It was a pretty simple life. One day Jason got this job to remove a very heavy ornate wrought iron light fixture suspended 10 feet in the air in a popular shopping centre. We estimated that the structure weighed about 40kg and was about 6 feet long. It was after-hours at the shopping centre, just the 2 of us with one very rickety ladder; a recipe for a very nice disaster. After we loosened all the bolts I called Jason to come down the ladder begging him to join me in a short protection prayer before we went any further. I did not fancy myself balancing 40 kg on our shoulders as we descended the ladder. Jason was in a real rush and protested saying that it was a sheer waste of time, but to his credit he did join me for quick but intense 20 second prayer; and just as well. As he undid the final bolt, the fitting began to tip perilously downward onto by unprepared shoulders. Then just at that very moment a big burley workman appeared out of the blue, and seeing our impending peril rushed to our rescue taking the bulk of the weight as I scampered down the ladder. Then after placing the fitting on the ground the workman simply smiled and walked away, leaving us both in awe, slightly shaken but extremely grateful. Needless to say Jason never protested about us praying for protection again, and I was left in awe of the benevolence and compassion that is available to us all.
